The ULM men’s golf team delivered another impressive performance at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, totaling 851 strokes with rounds of -3, -3 and -7.
Fans watched Anceaux rise through the ranks following wins at the GMAC Invitational. His overall score of 206 (-10) further cemented his place as one of the top collegiate golfers this fall.
“Having Anceaux as a teammate is a great thing. He’s a good player and person,” Senior Javier Balbastre said. “Someone that good on a team is always going to help.”
Balbastre and Anceaux opened the first round strong, with rounds of 71(-1) each.
As the day progressed, Anceaux and Balbastre maintained their momentum. Anceaux’s score of 68(-4) in the second round propelled him toward the top of the leaderboard, while Balbastre’s steady 70 (-2) helped ULM finish the day with a cumulative score of 574 (-6).
“The first day was tough as it had 36 holes. We struggled in the second round,” Balbastre said. “We prepared ourselves to be on track for the second day.”
On Tuesday, Anceaux delivered his best tournament performance with a final round of 67 (-5), securing a top-five finish. Balbastre carded a 69 (-3), earning 12th place.
The Warhawks ended the event with a score of 851 (-13).
Though Anceaux and Balbastre grabbed the spotlight, the rest of the team played a major role in this win. Theis Poulsen posted an aggregate score of 219, and Alston Manne, competing as an individual, shot 235.
“Winning is always the target. We will go out and keep doing what we are doing. We are doing great,” Balbastre said. “We just need the last click, and I think we can win the upcoming event.”
The Warhawks will head into the final tournament of the fall season, the Everett Buick GMC Classic in Little Rock on Oct. 14.
