The ULM Warhawks track and field team competed at the Jim Mize Relays at Louisiana Tech in Ruston. The Warhawks would end the day with five events won on the men’s side and three on the women’s.
The ULM men’s team took home the gold in the 400m hurdles, 1500m,3000, hammer throw, and the 4x400m Relay. The winners of these respective events are Matthew Malcolm with a time of 52.44, Raymond Gomez with a time of 4:05.11, Chase Gunn with a time of 8:49.89, and Joshua Qualls with a distance of 50.79m in the hammer throw. Imani Coleman, Thibault Buchard, Santana Richardson, and Matthew Malcom were the relay team that placed first. The Warhawks men’s track and field team also podiumed six other times. These three Warhawks who placed second on the podium are Elijah Palao (800m), Silas Christie (3000m), and Tucker Petrus (Shot Put). For the Warhawks that captured third are Taj Morris (110m hurdles), Silas Christie (1500m), and Joshua Qualls (Shot Put).
The ULM women’s team also took home gold. Maya Nobes won the 1500m with a time of 4:44.20, Tuva Sandberg won the 3000m with a time of 10:24.59, and Macy Lee Hale won the shot put with a distance of 12.89m. There were also nine other warhawks to win medals for the women’s team, with them being Kalli Husband (100m hurdles), Anna Naff (1500m), Maya Nobes (3000m), Ruth Nilsen (Hammer Throw), and Mikayla Douglas, Courtney Smith, Monika Ortiz, and Brianna Taylor, with the last four being named being apart of the 4x400m relay team. The Warhawks that claimed third are Keniya Simpson (200m), Monika Ortiz (400m Hurdles), Lenja Wiechers (3000m), and Maria Nikolaou (4x400m Relay)
The Track and Field team’s next meet will be in Baton Rouge at the LSU Alumni Gold in April. 25.
