On March 27, 2026, ULM faced the Ragin Cajuns at Russo Park in Lafayette, La., in Game 1 of the series. The game drew a crowd of 4,202 on a partly cloudy evening with evening temperatures around 83 degrees and a little wind blowing from the west. The first pitch was at 6:06 p.m., and the game lasted just under three hours.
ULM got off to a rocky start in the top of the first. Davis Mauzy popped up to short, and then Micah Dean hit a solid double to left. He then made it to third on a throwing error by the pitcher, but back-to-back strikeouts by Blaser and Haggard left him stranded, so ULM couldn’t put any runs on the board. The Cajuns came up in the bottom of the first but couldn’t capitalize, leaving the bases empty after Lewis and Lim struck out and LaCava lined out to second.
In the second inning, ULM tried to get something going. Marcus Aranda doubled down the left field line, Dupont singled to right to move him to third, and White reached on a fielder’s choice, but Marcus Aranda was thrown out at home and Wiethorn was filed out, leaving two on bases without a run. The Cajuns also struggled again in the bottom half, as Spalita, Brown, and Amedee all got out.
In the third inning, the Cajuns had a small breakthrough. After Hernandez fouled out, Markle walked and stole his way to third, followed by Rodriguez’s groundout to second, which brought Markle home, putting the Cajuns on the board to make it 1-0. Lewis singled and stole second, but no more runs crossed, and ULM still trailed.
ULM’s offense wasn’t good in the fourth. Dupont, White, and Wiethorn all grounded out, leaving the bases empty again. The Cajuns responded in the fourth with a big play. LaCava singled, and Spalitta launched a two-run homer to right-center, extending the lead to 3-0. Amedee added a single, but the inning ended with the bases partially loaded.
ULM finally started making things happen in the fifth. Micah Dean was hit by a pitch, Blaser singled, and Jake Haggard struck out, but Dean managed to score on the play, putting ULM on the board 3-1. The Cajuns couldn’t answer in the bottom half, leaving the score the same.
The sixth inning was all ULM, as Kade Dupont singled, Zach White walked and Wiethorn’s single brought Dupont home. Mauzy then crushed a three-run homer to left, giving ULM the lead 3-5. Micah Dean tried to keep it going with a single later in the inning, but the rally slowed after that. The Cajuns threatened in the bottom half but left two on base without scoring.
From the seventh through the ninth, both teams struggled to score. ULM couldn’t add any more runs, and the Cajuns left runners stranded despite a few hits and walks. The game ended with ULM holding on to a 5-3 victory in a hard-fought series opener.
The second game of the series took place on March 28, 2026, at Russo Park in Lafayette, La., with ULM looking to build on from their previous performance, as the Warhawks defeated the Cajuns 7-3 in a hard-fought matchup.
ULM started slow, as they were unable to take advantage of early opportunities in the first inning, as Davis Mauzy drew a walk, but was caught stealing, and Micah Dean and Bryce Blaser were unable to push runners across, leaving the bases empty.
In the second inning, ULM struck first, as Jake Haggard singled to right-center, and after Marcus Aranda was hit by a pitch. The runners advanced due to a sacrifice bunt by Dayne Wray, along with a Dupont fly-out, which brought Jake in, giving ULM a 1-0 lead. The Cajuns remained scoreless in the bottom half as Amedee, Rodriguez, and Markle failed to bring runners home.
In the third inning, ULM still couldn’t get anything going. Davis Mauzy worked a walk and moved to second on Dean’s groundout, but Blaser popped up to shortstop, leaving ULM scoreless again. The Cajuns also came up empty in their half of the inning.
ULM’s offense heated up in the sixth inning. Blaser crushed a solo home run to right field, followed by Wray’s solo shot to left, giving ULM a 3-1 lead. Dupont was hit by a pitch, and after White grounded out, Wiethorn singled to center, scoring Dupont and extending the lead to 4-1. Mauzy then cleared the bases with a three-run homer, putting ULM ahead 7-1.
The Cajuns attempted a comeback. LaSalle homered in the seventh inning, trimming the lead to 7-2, and Spalitta drove in a run in the eighth, making it 7-3. However, ULM’s pitching held strong in the final inning, shutting down the Cajuns and securing the 7-3 victory.
The win gave ULM momentum in the series, with big contributions from Blaser, Wray, and Mauzy, who combined for four key RBIs and multiple extra-base hits, while the pitching staff kept the Cajuns from mounting a serious threat in the late innings.
In the third and final game of the series, ULM struggled to find any offensive rhythm as the Cajuns pulled away for a 4-0 win at Russo Park.
From the start, it was clear runs would be hard to come by. ULM went down in order in the first inning, with Davis Mauzy and Micah Dean both striking out along with Bryce Blaser who hit a groundout to shortstop. The Cajuns didn’t do much better in their half, as both teams came out scoreless in the opening inning.
That pattern continued early on as ULM was held hitless through the first three innings, with multiple strikeouts slowing any chance of momentum. The Cajuns were trying to make something happen in the second and third innings, putting runners on base, but ULM’s defense managed to hold them off and keep the game tied.
The breakthrough finally came in the fourth inning for the Cajuns. After a leadoff single and a sacrifice bunt put a runner in scoring position, Amedee delivered with an RBI single to give them a 1-0 lead. The small play shifted the momentum and set the tone for the rest of the game.
ULM had one of its best chances in the fifth inning. Jake Haggard and Marcus Aranda both reached with singles, and Kade Dupont added another to load the bases, but back-to-back strikeouts ended their run, leaving all three runners stranded. That missed opportunity seemed to carry over into the later innings.
The Cajuns took advantage again in the fifth and sixth innings. LaCava added a solo home run to extend the lead to 2-0, and in the sixth, the Cajuns put together another rally. A triple by Amedee and an RBI double by Lewis made it 3-0, and a bases-loaded walk later in the inning pushed the lead to 4-0.
ULM continued to fight but couldn’t break through. Even in the eighth inning, when White was hit by a pitch, and Wiethorn and Dean followed with singles to load the bases, the opportunity slipped away after a double play ended the inning.
From there, the Cajuns closed it out, as ULM went down in order in the ninth, finishing the game without a run. Even with the loss in this game, ULM still came away with the series win, taking two out of three games over the Cajuns. The Warhawks will look to carry this momentum as they face Louisiana Tech on the road on March 31, 2026.
