Before Saturday’s matchup, the ULM football team had a tough road trip, losing both games. The Warhawks (5-4, 3-3) geared up for the afternoon matchup against Texas State (5-4, 3-2) looking to break their win drought. Texas State defeated the Warhawks 38-17, shutting them out for the entire first half.
The Bobcats opened the game with a rushing touchdown against ULM. After this, the Warhawks’ offense could not collect their bearings before halftime, resulting in three punts, a turnover on downs, and a fumble by freshman running back Ahmad Hardy.
Following the break, quarterback Aiden Armenta and Hardy took over on their first possession, leading ULM into the endzone for its first touchdown. After the ULM defense forced a stop, running back James Jones and Hardy showcased a solid rushing performance to cut the lead to 28-14.
Armenta’s fourth-quarter interception shifted the momentum. Texas State’s offense scored on the next possession, boosting the lead to 31-14. After that, Texas State’s defense held ULM to three more points, securing the win.
Despite the loss, Armenta passed for 119 yards, and Hardy contributed 107 rushing yards to ULM’s total of 159 rushing yards. On the defensive side, Travor Randle led with 15 total tackles.
The Warhawks’ offense recorded six fumbles, losing one, and converted only three of 12 third-down attempts (25%).
The Warhawks travel to face Auburn on Saturday.
