Danny Trejo as the title character in Robert Rodriguez's "Machete"

Originally a faux trailer played before Robert Rodriguez’s “Planet Terror” in his and Quentin Tarantino’s “Grindhouse” double feature, “Machete” gives Danny Trejo top billing as an action hero adept in the art of slicing off body parts of countless brutes in suits and swinging out of buildings using intestines.

It’s a B-grade action flick, complete with film scratches and gore aplenty, but as soon as it begins to pose as something more serious with a political mocking of the immigration bill passed in Arizona, it’s yawn inducing.

There’s a scene where one character claims invincibility, then gives up and begins to stir his gut until he dies. And like “Machete,” it starts out bizarrely amusing but before too long, it’s just stupid
