ULM baseball hires new head coach

Michael Federico was named the new head coach of ULM Baseball Monday. Federico is the 12th head coach the baseball team has had.

Federico was born in Slidell, Louisiana, and has over 20 years of experience coaching at the collegiate level.

Federico previously coached at the University of Southern Mississippi.

At the University of Southern Miss., Federico was an assistant coach in charge of pitchers and catchers for nine seasons.

At Southern Miss, Federico contributed to five Conference USA Championships and four NCAA Regional Tournament appearances.

In the 2017 season, Southern Miss had a record 50 wins.

During the 2015 season, Federico was named Assistant Coach of the Year by Conference USA. He earned this award by helping Southern Miss. to a conference best 3.14 ERA with a school record of 10 shutouts.

Federico has a history of successful stints as assistant coach. Before heading to Southern Miss., he was responsible for pitchers and catchers at The University of Memphis, Tennessee.

He helped lead the Memphis Tigers to a 2007 NCAA regional appearance, their first since 1994. During his five seasons in Memphis, he contributed to 12 players being drafted, seven were pitchers.

Memphis Head Coach Daron Schoenrock said ULM made the right decision with Federico.

“There is no doubt ULM has absolutely made a wonderful choice in Mike,” Schoenrock said. “In his five years here at Memphis, he molded young men, developed winners and served the program with diligence that I know will elevate ULM to great heights. It is a great fit and great choice by all involved.”
