Joshua Comer, an assistant professor of communication and the communication program director at ULM, died Sunday night in Mer Rouge. 

According to the News Star, Comer was murdered and the alleged suspect is his father-in-law, Jack Mathews. Comer, 39, died from gunshot wounds and Mathews, 68, died by suicide.

Morehouse Parish Sheriff Mike Tubbs told the News Star that it appears an altercation occurred before the shooting and the bodies of Comer and Mathews have been sent to Little Rock for autopsy. 

Comer, originally from Ohio, started teaching at ULM in fall of 2017. He is survived by his wife Cheyanne Comer.
