The ULM football team took on Old Dominion at home Nov. 1, in what was their first home game since playing Troy on Oct. 18. After struggling to get any offense going throughout the whole game, the final score came to be 6-31, Old Dominion.
When a football team fails to exceed 200 passing yards in every game, you are not going to win many games unless the ground game is exceptional—of which ULM’s is not. When momentum is killed by an interception or even just a bad pass, a team is not going to score a lot. ULM must figure its offense out, even with all the injuries, if they are going to be competitive in the near future.
There was no high point in this game for the Warhawks, as they did not score their first points until the fourth quarter, with just over four minutes remaining.
After ULM turned the ball over on downs in the first quarter, Old Dominion marched down the field in just three plays for the game’s first points, making the score 0-7, Monarchs. Once ODU scored, they never looked back, scoring another rushing touchdown with four minutes left in the quarter, making the score 0-14. To end the quarter, the Monarchs tagged on a 30-yard field goal, now leading by 17.
The second quarter did not see much action, but the impact was still felt. Old Dominion tacked on another rushing touchdown, the third of the day, to make the score 0-24 going into halftime.
The third quarter saw ULM’s defense step up, not allowing any points throughout the whole quarter. On the other hand, the offense did not get anything either.
ODU got its offense going again in the fourth quarter, with the fourth and final rushing touchdown of the day, putting the score at 0-31. Late in the fourth, Aidan Armenta completed a four-yard passing touchdown to Rylan Green, ending the game at 6-31 due to a missed extra-point attempt.
ULM will stay home for the next two weeks, playing South Alabama on Nov. 15. That weekend is also Parents’ Weekend, so hopefully the team can feed off the energy that more people will bring.
