ULM counts their first victory this season over Rust College with 88-55 win under head coach Phil Cunningham in the Fant-Ewing Coliseum on Nov. 10.
In the Ole Miss game, viewers were able to see Krystian Lewis assist the team and lead them, as well as the game against Rust, Lewis made his presence known on the court, openly communicated with his teammates and scored strongly, especially in the last quarter.
MJ Russel also got a chance to prove himself in the Ole Miss game, scoring 15 points, four rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal; this energy was carried into the game against Rust. Being a key player for the team, fans see Russel finding more confidence on the court as he led the team with 20 points. Russel was able to find back-to-back opportunities early in the first half. ULM made a total of 7 three-pointers, with Russel accounting for 3 of those.
This game in particular allowed ULM’s defensive tactics to shine. Looking especially at the second half, fans saw the Warhawks gain extreme success in forcing turnovers and steals. With many shots being blocked, ULM was able to keep Rust in a scoring deficiency, putting the Warhawks in a substantial lead. The defensive pressure, along with improvements in recovering rebounds, resulted in an overall dominant performance from ULM.
As the Warhawks continue to build a solid foundation, the team will be looking to improve their chemistry, since most of the players are new.
