In ULM’s first game, the team (2-4) took on Northern Kentucky (1-3) in New Orleans for the Maestri Classic. After a very tight game through five innings, the Warhawks’ offense became stagnant, finishing the game 4-6, Northern Kentucky.
After a slow first and second inning, both teams’ offense came alive, with ULM’s Marcus Aranda homering toward left field scoring himself, Davis Mauzy and Bryce Blaser. Although ULM had the momentum, NKU swung it right back with one run scoring off an error by Jake Griffith. Right after that, Josh Williams doubled to left center, bringing in another run. One last run came in after another error by Dayne Wray, ending the inning at 3-3.
Both offenses would hold the tie until the fifth inning, when Jake Haggard hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Micah Dean and making the score 4-3. NKU responded in the bottom half, though, with a two-run homerun to deep left field, making the score 4-5 to end the fifth.
ULM wouldn’t produce any more runs throughout the rest of the game, but NKU’s Alex Brazer doubled to center field, scoring one more run in the seventh inning, ending the game at 4-6.
In the Warhawks’ second game against Alabama A&M, a late ULM rally wasn’t enough to come back, ending the game at 7-11.
The scoring started early in this game, with AAMU scoring four in the first. The second inning didn’t bring anything to comment on, but in the third, ULM got on the board with a double from Dean, scoring Mauzy.
The fourth and fifth innings would be controlled by AAMU, scoring six runs across the two innings and bringing the score to 1-10, and ULM needing a miracle to come back.
In the eighth, Blaser started the inning off with a double to right center, and the team didn’t stop. Wray hit a double for himself, Dean Hannah grounded out to short but scored one, Garrett Weithorn doubled to shallow left field, Mauzy singled toward right field and Blaser ended the inning off by walking in Wiethorn. After this amazing rally, the Warhawks would still come up short, ending the game at 7-11.
The Warhawks finished the tournament out by playing the University of New Orleans. After a slow start, ULM pulled away with a 9-1 victory.
After a blank first inning, the Privateers got on the board first in the second inning with a solo homer from Kruise Newman. The game would remain at a standstill for the next few innings, but there was no lack of offense.
In the fifth, Mauzy started the Warhawks off with a triple down the right field line, scoring Landry and Wiethorn. Mauzy would get his turn to go around the bases as well when Dean singled up the middle, making the score 3-1 to end the inning.
The Warhawks kept it rolling in the sixth by getting the bases loaded and walking in a run from Mauzy. Staying on brand with the center fielder, Dean got hit by a pitch, bringing in another run. To round out the sixth, Blaser hit an infield single to bring in the final run of the inning, making the score 6-1.
There wouldn’t be any more action until the eighth inning, when Dean singled to right center and scored Mauzy off an error by UNO’s center fielder. To end the game, Haggard singled to right center, bringing in Dean and Blaser, and finally ending the game at 9-1, Warhawks.
