The NCAA track and field indoor championship ran from March 13-14 at the Randal Tyson Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. We saw a dominant display from the Arkansas Men’s indoor team as they clinched the championship with two events left. On the other side, we saw a head coach win their first indoor title with the Georgia Women’s Indoor Track and Field team.
On day one of the indoor championships, most of the track portion were semifinals, except for the 5000 meters for both men and women, and the distance medley relay. As for the field events, there is the weight throw, the long jump for men and women, and the pole vault for men. The men also competed in the Heptathlon events, which included the 60 meters, long jump, shot put and the high jump. The Women had 60 hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and the 800 meters in the Pentathlon events.
The winners of day one from the women’s side are: for the Pentathlon, Oregon’s Liisa-Maria Lusti. Weight throw is Minnesota’s Anthonett Nabwe. Long Jump is Illinois ’ Sophia Beckmon
The 5000-meter winner is BYU’s Jane Hedengren, and for the distance medley relay(DMR), you have Oregon. The winners on the men’s side are: for the pole vault, Kansas’ Ashton Barkdull, and the weight throw, Iowa’s Ryan Johnson, in the long jump: Tarleton State’s Lokesh Sathyanathan, the 5000 meters winner is New Mexico’s Habtom Samuel, and for the distance medley relay, the winner is Northern Arizona. At the end of day one, Illinois leads the women’s team score with 30, and for the men’s, Arkansas is at the front with a score of 14.
On day two, we saw all the individual winners receive their awards, and the two national championship teams were announced. The events run on the last day were the men’s mile, 60 meters, 400, 800 meters, 200 meters, 60 meters hurdles, 3000 meters, and the 4×400 relay. On the field side, you have shot put, high jump and triple jump. The women’s events were the same as the ones on the 13th, with the pole vault being added to the field portion. The men’s heptathlon was the first event of the day.
Throughout the last day, Georgia’s women’s team and Oregon moved up the rankings to overtake Illinois lead at the meet. Georgia’s women’s team won in the last event to take a 45-44 lead against the Oregon team. While on the Men’s side, Arkansas comes out on top with a dominant 63.5 points compared to second-place Oregon, which scored 33 points.
