Due to large crowds during football games, the grass field between Malone Stadium and the ULM Soccer Field are now pay-parking areas.
In the past, students tailgated in the grass fields near the intramurals and soccer field, but now, all students have to tailgate inside the Student Grove.
According to Deputy Athletics Director, Josh Brooks, it is common in the Division I level to charge for parking in the immediate areas around the stadium.
“To have that student grove within 50 feet of the stadium is really unique,” said Brooks. “We know it is a bit of a change for some people, but when you compare it to even our conference rivals and other Division I schools, it’s still a way better scenario to have that area designated just for students.”
Brooks said the parking will be improvised as needed, but not too much to avoid confusion.
On the brighter side, students can expect to see some carnival wonders during the upcoming homecoming tailgate, Brooks said.
