No need to live in cluttered room

No need to live in cluttered room

At some point, keys, wallets and especially the remote have all been lost.  But taking more than ten seconds to find something could possibly be a sign that spring-cleaning is approaching faster than expected.

There’s no question that things can get a little messy in living spaces, but if having to walk over things to get to the door sounds familiar then it’s time to start “decluttering”.

Kacy Veillon, a sophomore communications major also has a method to prevent her room from becoming cluttered.

“I fold clothes and hang the clothes rather than just stuff them in the drawers”, Veillon said.

Veillon also said that she puts her clothes into a laundry basket to avoid throwing them around her room.

People often hold on to something because they think that they will need it as soon as they get rid of it. However, if you haven’t used it up by now, there’s a good chance it won’t ever get used. So, it’s important to know how to get rid of these things as efficiently as possible.

First, you should start with the desk that can’t be recognized. Get rid of all unneeded papers and straighten up any books that may be out of place. The purpose of a desk is to do homework, not to be used as a garbage dump.

Secondly, clear your drawers of unworn clothes. The main reason people hold onto them is because they think they will eventually wear them. If it’s been more than six months and it hasn’t worn it, then it’s time to say goodbye. Goodwill always accepts clothes.

Thirdly, clean out that mold in the refrigerator. Yes, throw out any expired food and drinks and start buying needed groceries.

Considering you may have had a cluttered room for a while, cleaning it out may be a challenge. However there are more specific ways that it can be done.

Marissa Thongdy, a sophomore toxicology major, said her room is the way she likes it. Despite her clutter, Thongdy also says she can always find things when she needs it.

“My mess is my mess. When I need to find something I have to search for it but I always find it. The downfall is, when I’m in a rush it’s impossible for me to find anything,” Thongdy said.

Regardless of the reason, applying these simple tips will not only create more space, but you will make it to the door without spraining your ankle.
