Blood, gore and guts—oh my!

It’s October so that means its time for a horror fest. Blood, gore, suspense, guts and lots of it is packed into one game: Until Dawn.

Until Dawn is your go-to game for horror, suspense and action fanatics. The story revolves around a group of teens at a cabin located in the snowy mountains pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

Things take a turn for the worst when pranking goes wrong and two sisters die in a horrible accident. No one is sure exactly what happens but their brother is left alone to cope with their loss.

The game picks up a year later when he invites them all back to the cabin to reconcile with each other and all hell breaks loose.

The most amazing part about this game is that it is a motion picture that the player controls. Every single decision that’s made, a different story branches out which has the possibility to change the ending to the game. This is referred to as “The Butterfly Effect” in the game and it shows how the story is altered with every choice that’s made.

Another neat aspect of the game is the way each character changes as the game progresses due to the Butterfly Effect thus changing the outcome of whether that character lives, dies, or gets hurt.

There are about ten playable characters and when each one is being controlled, they snoop around for clues as to what is going on and why but be careful, evil lurks.

The graphics are breathtaking for the next gen console. The sound of the blistering cold whirling past, every crunching step in the snow sounds real. The faces and voices of each character are real live actors such as former Heroes TV star Hayden Panettiere, have been virtualized into the game.

One of the most distracting features about this game is the sometimes uncomfortable camera view that doesn’t allow camera angles to be totally dictated. Maneuvering around can prove difficult at times.

It’s fairly short and almost too easy to beat. It takes about five or six hours to beat the story the first time around but afterwards it probably takes two hours at the most.

It’s not a lengthy game. Until Dawn is rated M for Mature and has some profanity use, sexual scenes, and plenty gore. Until Dawn’s gameplay is similar to Beyond: Two Souls.

The movie Cabin in the Woods can relate closely to Until Dawn. It has a bit of everything jam-packed into one game and is definitely worth playing.

Until Dawn receives a substantial four out five stars.
